This amazing aromatic plant is native from Spain and can be found in all the Mediterranean region, it is considered one of the most important aromatics plants due to its impact in culinary purposes and medicinal properties.
There are numerous varieties of Thyme. The most commonly known in Spain is the Red Thyme (Thymus Zygis).
Thymus zygis is a tough plant, can resist drought and high temperatures, also the occasional freezing. Its major enemy is the excess of water on soil.
It is produced in southeastern Spain and the crop season is from May to October.
The oil of Thyme was used by the ancient civilizations such as Egyptians and Greeks. The name Thyme came from the Greek word thymos, meaning “to perfume”.
The oil is a red to orange-brown liquid and has a very warm herbaceous odour, somewhat spicy and distinctly aromatic. The main constituent is Carvacrol and Thymol.
