From Spain to North America: Albert Clapés’ Journey

In this interview we will learn a little about the most personal facet of our North America Managing Director, Albert Clapés.

Albert ClapésName and position at Ventós
My name is Albert Clapés, North America Managing Director.

How long have you been working at Ventós?
I started working at Ernesto Ventós 10 years ago, practically right after finishing university. My first steps were in sales, covering the Spanish market, and I remember making a great effort to learn the names of the company’s extensive product portfolio. These 10 years have been a period of great growth and learning, and I feel that I continue to learn something new every day. It is a truly fascinating industry.

Tell us about your day-to-day responsibilities:
My daily work at Ventós consists of overseeing the management of the North American region, where we have two operational subsidiaries (Mexico and the USA), with the aim of strengthening the company’s position as a distributor and ensuring a stable supply of aroma chemicals and essential oils throughout the region.

What differentiates Ventós in the market?
Our ability to operate as a global company with subsidiaries around the world, while maintaining a strong local impact through efficient, high-quality service supported by our extensive global stock. This allows us to be a true “one-stop shop” that provides fast and reliable solutions to our customers.

What do you like most about your job?
We live in a globalized and interconnected world, where events happening anywhere can impact other regions within hours. This makes maintaining a constant and reliable supply of our raw materials a real challenge and requires us to stay one step ahead at all times. I enjoy being part of such a dynamic industry, and of course, the direct contact I have with our customers and suppliers on a daily basis.

What would you mix with a gin and tonic?
I like the fresh and spicy touch that cardamom adds.

What smells take you back to your childhood?
I used to spend a large part of my holidays in a small village in the Catalan Pyrenees, and I remember the smoky and woody notes of the fireplace in winter, as well as the scent of wet earth and fresh grass after the late summer rains.

Your ideal vacation destination? What would your perfect vacation be like?
Any destination surrounded by the people I love, but if I had to choose, a quiet beach with white sand and the sound of the sea in the background.

What makes you feel most proud outside of work?
Of course, my family and all the good friends I have kept despite living away from my home country for many years.

What is the best piece of advice you have received in your professional life?
Always be honest in business. Small details matter

What style of music do you listen to? Who is your favorite singer?
I listen to all kinds of music depending on the moment, but a good live jazz session combined with a nice dinner and a great cocktail is something truly special.

What is your favorite hobby?
I try to travel as much as I can to discover different parts of the world, explore new cultures, and live enriching experiences.

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or historical, who would it be?
Jeff Bezos.

What small, everyday thing brings you happiness?
A good cup of coffee early in the morning while reading the news about what’s happening in the world and getting ready to enjoy a new day.
