From Catalonia to the Americas: Pol Esquivel’s Journey at Ventós

In this interview we will learn a little about the most personal facet of our Senior Sales Manager, Pol Esquivel.

Pol EsquivelTell us your day-to-day responsibilities.
Managing sales in part of the American market (North America, Central America, and the Andean Community countries) and supporting the 3 subsidiaries we have in those regions (USA, Mexico, and Colombia).

What sets Ventós apart in the market?
There are many things I could highlight: the wide variety of products in stock (more than 3,000 references), subsidiaries located in strategic points for the industry, prestigious representations… But without a doubt, our greatest strength is customer service. We always say this is a people business, and Ventós invests heavily in its personnel with the goal of making service excellence non-negotiable.

What do you like most about your work?
The dynamism in the day-to-day tasks. Working with raw materials often leads to sudden and radical changes (for example, in prices or availability), and we must quickly adapt to very changing situations. This keeps us on our toes, as there are always new projects and challenges ahead. I also have the opportunity to travel and be in direct contact with people from different countries, nationalities, and cultures, which is personally very enriching.

What would you mix a gin and tonic with?
With grapefruit—it gives a different "touch" from the classic lime.

What smells transport you back to your childhood?
The smells of the countryside and the mountains, since I spent much of my childhood in a small village in Central Catalonia.

What is your ideal vacation destination? What would your perfect vacation be like?
Any sunny beach destination that isn’t overcrowded (which is tough to find nowadays) works for me.

What is the main trait of your character?
Rationality. It’s important to take a brief pause to think, understand, and evaluate before acting.

What style of music do you listen to? Who is your favorite singer?
At each stage of life (childhood, teenage years, young adulthood…) different artists and styles accompany you, so I couldn’t pick just one.

What is your favorite hobby?
I’ve always liked sports in general and reading biographies, but currently, my wife and I spend most of our free time with our daughters. The activity itself is secondary as long as we’re with them.

If a film director offered you to make a movie about your life, who would you like to play your character?
Matthew McConaughey, even though he’s quite a few years older than me.

Would you prefer to travel to the past or to the future?
I prefer living in the present, but if I had to choose, I’d travel to the past to relive moments.
