The name of this species of Mint comes from the modern Latin piperitus, which means spicy. Its use, along with that of chamomile, was introduced in Central Europe during the 18th century and due to its digestive properties. Today, its essential oil finds various uses ranging from flavoring gum dragees to cosmetic products.
